I’ve owned this domain for a little while now. It was staring at me on TDNAM’s firesale section while it was expiring. I love domain+keyword domains. ‘Hookup’ sounded cool. And, the domain had a pretty significant age. I purchased it and crossed my fingers. I soon received that email saying the domain was mine.
No more than a month later, I received an email from the original owner trying to get the domain back. I just couldn’t sell. I quickly listed a number of ideas for the domain.
- Domain Registrar
- Domain Resource Site
- Domain Auction Site
- My Domain Portfolio
- A Blog
How many reseller services are out there? Actual ICANN accredited registrar’s own the domain registration market and the few trusted reseller’s own the rest of the market.
Tons of these too, unless you are a programmer who can constantly bring new tools to the table. I plan on implementing some tools onto this site too as a companion to what I went with.
This is something I still want to do. Sure their is Sedo, Bido, the domain forums, but I feel like this area still has room for another. However, for a site like this, I would definitely go with a brandable ‘made up’ name.
Boring unless you’re a buyer coming to my site because you had interest in a domain of mine. However, a portfolio combing with something else can provide interest in my brand and portfolio. Hmm…
And here we are. Almost three years after getting into the domain name industry (August of 2006), I’m started a blog. I’m a very opinionated person. I’m constantly annoying those around me with domain name news. This seems like the way to go. Sure, I ruled out my first two ideas due to a crowded market, but blogs are different. A service is still providing a service, no matter what new spin you put on it. A blog provides a whole new outlook on a topic. And that is what I aim to provide.
DomainHookup.com is still a work in progress. The design is temporary. Great domain tools and resources will be added. I’m getting a Twitter account set up specifically for the site. But, for the moment, you can definitely expect a regularly updated blog.
